This was the first CD released by Adriano and
it was recorded in 1992.
I had the privilege to play and tour with Adriano
in 1984, just before I migrated to Australia, and, more recently
in August 2001 when we played with Periquito - Sax, Felipe
Baden-Powell - Piano and Alexandre Carvalho - Guitar.
Adriano and I remained good friends despite the distance
and I always get his CD's as a present when I go to Rio !!) I remember
being in Rio in 1990 and watching Adriano rehearsing with
his band at his place in Tijuca. I was amazed by the music they
were producing !!!
Adriano did the whole lot in this album: he
composed, arranged, and played
in all the tracks. His superb and unique mastery of the Bass is
showcased in Bom Partido where Adriano play all parts
(rhythm & solo) on bass. He plays the REAL Brazilian feel -
"Brazuca pura" !! . The arrangements of both Samba
de Candango and Arte Final are both rich rhythmically
and exciting (check out Adriano's bass intro on the former - wow
!!). Adriano solo on Bom Dia Mar is so beautiful that
makes me reminisce of the old days I spent in Ipanema looking
at the sunset, sigh! Marimbanda is another example of the
wealth of the Brazilian music styles. Modelo de Suingue is
a very sweet melody which, believe me, you never should listen to
when you're heart broken. What can I say ???
Well, if you want to hear to the real thing, like
drinking a "caipirinha" in "Avenida
28 de Setembro" in Vila Isabel (suburb where
I was born), Rio, then check this album out. Furthermore,
if you are a serious bassist and like Brazilian music, then this
CD is a must.

Keeping
the tradition in this second album, Adriano arranged/composed(*)/
played in all tracks. Adriano plays a multitude of Brazilian rhythms
(Samba, Partido Alto, Afoxe, Baiao,
Maracatu) and even a blues - Brazilian Style - dedicated
to Luis Carlos Antunes (our mutual friend who was running
a Jazz program at Fluminense FM at the time I left Brazil).
This album got good write-ups from two top Brazilian artists:
Leny de Andrade & Joao Nogueira.
"Congratulations to both Adriano Giffoni
and Perfil Musical for this special and very Brazilian album.
The good taste of his first CD permeates through this second one.
Madrugada Carioca has everything I like: talent, guts, power
and light. Light of a special Bass that produces continuously the
Good, the Beautiful and the Right, as far as Brazilian music is
concerned. A album for the world ! That's the way !!! Good luck
!"
Leny de Andrade
"Adriano Gifoni, Brazilian musician ... and what a musician
! From all the musicians I've ever worked with, Giffoni is one that
touched me the most for the quality, sound and professionalism he
steers his career with. Madrugada Carioca shows us how good this
"cearense" from Quixada City is."
Joao Nogueira
