Carlos employs a unique and
unorthodox teaching style with students mastering
not only the technique of drumming but also acquiring
the true feel of Brazilian music.
Growing up in Rio in the 50's and 60's
(one of the richest periods of musical activity in
Brazil) Carlos was fortunate enough to be directly
involved in the wealth of music in all its forms
- from impromptu sessions in his street, amongst the communities
of sambistas playing endlessly and effortlessly
into the night, to the emerging and beautiful Brazilian
jazz culture of Rio that saw artists such as Edson
Machado (the pioneer of using the drum kit,
esp. the cymbals, to play samba rhythms),
saxophonist J.T. Meirelles and trombonist Edson
Maciel (with whom Carlos played several times in Niteroi, alongside pianist Chico Botelho) - ex Sergio Mendes's Bossa Rio - inspire audiences with their unique sound. Carlos Ferreira was playing with "Circuito Integrado" which was the support band for Gilberto Gil at his concert for 2,500 people at the Club de Regatas Icarai, Niteroi, RJ in 1973.
It is this experience and passion that he
is committed to passing on to his students.
