PERCUSSION & DRUM KIT

Carlos Ferreira |
Carlos Ferreira comes from Vila Isabel, a
suburb of Rio de Janeiro ( Brazil) which is to samba what
old New Orleans is to jazz. He initially developed his style playing
samba drums in some of Rio's most important Samba Schools. Later
he toured with TV - sponsored Brazilian jazz bands.
|
Since arriving in Australia in 1985, Ferreira has become one of Melbourne's
most exciting and innovative exponents of cross-cultural jazz, combining
local jazz styles with Brazilian rhythms.
Ferreira has given workshops at a range or primary, secondary
and tertiary institutions at a national level. He has
also extensively traveled overseas where he both performed and organised
Brazilian percussion workshops. Countries visited include China, Canada,
New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, England, Scotland, Iceland, Slovenia, Sweden, Japan,
USA, Germany and Switzerland. Ferreira has participated
as a teacher at the 2003/2004 Jambalaya New Zealand Percussion Festivals
where he trained a 100-plus bateria for a special performance at the
end of the 2004 Festival. Ferreira has been so successful with his teaching that both Samba groups from Auckland and Wellington have organised his return to NZ. Ferreira did a very successful European tour in 2004, leading 410 UK samba percussionists on the World Record Attempt for the Guinness Book of Records in St. Ives,Cornwall and 150 plus UK percussionists for the Edinburgh Festival Cavalcade 2004. Recent international worrkshops include Hong Kong 2006, the Edinburgh Samba School 2006 and Isle of Wight 2006.
